A description of Interstate 215

Interstate 215 (I-215) is a major north-south corridor that begins at the junction of I-15 near Temecula in Riverside County (District 8) and terminates at the junction of I-15 near Devore in San Bernardino County (District 8).  The I-215 corridor links areas of growing population and affordable housing in San Bernardino/Riverside Counties (District 8) to employment centers in San Diego County (District 11) via I-15.

Corridor Specific Issues

  • Due to the more level topography that adjoins most of this route the I-215 corridor  is expected to continue to be the focus of major growth pressures for many years.
  • Although needed widening is planned much of the I-215 Freeway is still developed with two Mixed Flow Lanes in each direction.  This level of Freeway improvement is not expected to be adequate to serve planned development and growth in the overall region.
  • The CSMP effort supports both the planned major widening transportation improvements and the operational improvements for this corridor.

Corridor Mobility Improvement Account (CMIA) Projects

The CSMP requirement is noted in the Baseline Agreements of all projects receiving CMIA funding. CMIA funds have been allocated for the following improvement projects in the I-215 Corridor:

  • Mixed Flow Lane widening from I-15 to Scott Road.
  • HOV and Mixed Flow Lanes, Orange Show Road to SR 210 Segments 1 and 2
  • HOV and Mixed Flow Lanes, Orange Show Road to SR 210 Segment 5
  • SR-210 to I-215 north and south bound direct connectors
