A description of the Interstate 10 corridor

Interstate 10 (I-10) is a major east/west transcontinental arterial stretches from the Pacific Coast SR-1 in Santa Monica (District 7), across the southern United States, to the Atlantic Coast in Jacksonville, Florida. The corridor spans eight states: California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.
In District 8, I-10 begins at the San Bernardino /Los Angeles Count line and terminates at the California/Arizona State Line. I-10 is a national freight corridor providing a link from Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach via its connection with I-710 to the southern United States, East Coast and major transcontinental north/south arterials.

Corridor Specific Issues

  • The portion of I-10 in District 8 being studied as a CSMP is from I-15 in the Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga area east through the cities of Fontana, Rialto, Colton, San Bernardino, Loma Linda to SR-60 in the Banning/Beaumont Area.
  • This entire portion of the I-10 corridor faces major continuing growth pressures.
  • The CSMP supports ongoing planning for major widening and operational improvements to this corridor.

Corridor Mobility Improvement Account (CMIA) Projects

The CSMP requirement is noted in the Baseline Agreements of all projects receiving CMIA funding. CMIA funds have been allocated for the following improvement projects in the I-10 Corridor:

  • Improve Local Freeway Intechange Ramps and build Auxilliary Lanes between Cherry, Citrus, and Cedar Avenue’s in the Fontana Area.
  • Add a westbound Mixed Flow Lane from Live Oak Canyon to Ford Street in the Yucaipa and Redlands areas.
